What is Claude?
Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic. It can write, analyze data, manage projects, review documents, and connect to your existing business tools. Think of it as a knowledgeable team member who never sleeps and can work across every department simultaneously.
Claude Chat vs. Cowork vs. Code
Claude Chat
The basic web interface. Good for ad-hoc questions and writing. Like having a smart assistant in a browser tab. Free to try, Pro plan for heavy use.
Claude Cowork (Team) — Start here
The business version. Connects to your company tools (HubSpot, Slack, Jira, Google Workspace). Multiple users with shared context. This is what most businesses should start with.
Claude Code (Developer Mode)
The developer-oriented mode inside the Desktop app (and a separate CLI). Writes, tests, and ships code. Built for engineering teams; most readers of this playbook should skip it until a specific engineering need comes up.
What does it cost?
Claude pricing is per-plan. All plans run in the same Desktop app; the plan determines which modes (Chat, Cowork, Code) and limits you get.
Rough budgeting: a 10-person business team on Claude Team runs ~$250/month, plus $0–$50/month for tool add-ons depending on what connectors you use. Pricing changes frequently — verify current numbers at anthropic.com/pricing before committing.
What should you deploy first?
Week 1: Start with Claude Cowork. Have 3-5 people try it for their existing work — email drafting, document review, data questions. No tools needed yet.
Week 2-3: Add connectors to tools your team already uses (Google Workspace, Notion, HubSpot, Slack). These are free and take 5-10 minutes to set up. No coding required.

What are the risks?
Data handling
When you use Claude, your prompts are sent to Anthropic's servers for processing. Enterprise and Team plans include data processing agreements that exclude training on your inputs. If you handle sensitive data (healthcare, financial, legal), confirm your plan's data policies with Anthropic.
Accuracy
Claude can make mistakes. It should augment human judgment, not replace it. Always review AI-generated content before sending externally.
Vendor dependency
Claude tools are an ecosystem, not a single vendor. Most connectors are open source and the catalog includes 70 vendor-built tools from companies like Atlassian, Microsoft, Stripe, and Salesforce.

Track these metrics before and after Claude deployment:
Time to complete recurring tasks
Measure how long common tasks take (email drafting, report writing, data analysis) before and after Claude. Early adopters typically report 30-60% time savings on structured, repeatable work.
Output volume
Count deliverables per person per week — proposals written, tickets triaged, reports generated. AI typically increases output 2-3x on text-heavy work.
Error rates
